Event Policies

Code of Conduct:

Easter Swing (ES) is dedicated to the ongoing work of creating a safer, more inclusive, and welcoming environment. The key values of our event are Kindness, Belonging, Growth, and Fun. Upholding these values is a collective responsibility held by every participant, both on and off the dance floor. This code of conduct is not exhaustive, and when in doubt, we ask participants to follow the spirit of these values, as well as the letter of our policies.

This policy was created by Easter Swing in collaboration with Fen Lastra and Jaesic Wade of Changeling Spaces. If you want to use this document in whole or in part you are welcome to, but please credit us all by name if you do.

Our Core Principles:

Clear & Ongoing Consent: Consent must be clear, informed, and ongoing. You have the absolute right to say "no," request an adjustment, or end a dance at any time for any reason. When in doubt, ask.

Dance Etiquette: Be kind and attentive. Refrain from offering unsolicited advice, criticism, or comments on physical appearance. Never force a move. Teaching on the dance floor is NOT allowed.

Personal and Communal Responsibility: Prioritize your well-being. Be mindful of alcohol consumption and look out for your fellow dancers, especially minors. Assess risks carefully in unsupervised spaces like hotel parties. We are a peanut-free event.

A Welcoming Space. Participants may dance in any role, in couples of any configuration, and can ask for support accommodating structural obstacles to their participation.

Weapon-Free Zone: No weapons are permitted at this event, including guns under a concealed carry license.

Zero Tolerance For:

Racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism and other forms of systemic intolerance.

Harassment, intimidation, threats, persistent unwanted contact or stalking.

Retaliatory behavior against those who report concerns.

External conduct that impacts the safety of our community.

Our Access Team:

If a situation arises that falls outside of our values, our access team - supported by the core organizer team - will work to resolve it. Our first priority is repair, with a focus on risk reduction if repair does not seem feasible. Risk reduction may include removal from the event.

What This Code Does Not Cover:

We are not a replacement for law enforcement or professional mediation. This policy does not cover:

  • Adjudicating intent, emotions, or legal crimes.

  • Emergency Situations: For crimes in progress or immediate danger, contact 911 immediately.

Grievance Policy:

Easter Swing fosters a safe and positive environment.

Inappropriate behavior is unacceptable and we handle complaints in a fair and reasonable manner that addresses the issue at hand while being considerate of everyone involved.

If you have a negative experience, you are encouraged to deal with the problem directly by first communicating clearly with those involved. If you cannot resolve the matter on your own, please contact an event representative to assist.

If someone has committed a serious offense, bring it to the attention of an event representative immediately and/or contact the police by calling 911. We will work with you to the best of our ability to resolve the problem. Easter Swing staff and representatives reserve the right to take action at our discretion, which may include contacting security, police, or ejecting an attendee. Easter Swing does not condone gossip, libel, slander, or defamation of character; and will not take action based on such third-party representations.
